Barcelona will play host to around fifty simultaneous concerts as part of Festival SIMFONIC
With Josep Carreras as patron, the festival will continue up until the 13th of the June throughout Catalonia and the Balearic islands and will feature more than 5000 music students
Festival SIMFONIC returns for the fifth edition on Saturday the 13th of June throughout Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, offering over a hundred free concerts and featuring more than 5000 students from participating music schools in the region. In addition to the live music aspect, as part of this year's edition, which enjoys the patronage of Josep Carreras, all he participating schools will simultaneously sing "El cant dels ocells" (The song of the birds) beginning at 7 pm.
Barcelona's contribution to Festival SIMFONIC will include roughly fifty concerts in numerous venues around the city including civic and cultural centres, the Sant Maria del Pí Basilica, CaixaForum, the Royal Pedralbes Monastery, the Bellesguard Tower, Barcelona Zoo and the Tibidado Amusement Park, among others and will feature students from the Orfeó Gracienc and Palau music schools and the Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC). The festival is open to a wide range of musical styles, from classical ensembles such as symphonic orchestras, chamber music formations, piano, opera and choral recitals to pop, rock, rap, jazz, swing, traditional and popular music as well as dj and electronic music sessions. The project began in 2010 as an initiative of the SIMFONIC Association and is designed to examine the training being offered young musicians in Catalonia's music schools.
