Barcelona VisualSound, 10th edition

This year, Barcelona’s audio-visual festival for young creators has been moved to the springtime and includes a number of changes and novelties

The 10th edition of Barcelona VisualSound confirms its status as one of the city’s festivals that provides the most opportunities for young creators in the fields of cinema, screenplays and soundtracks. This year the festival has been moved from the winter months to the springtime (3rd to 17th of May) and includes a number of novelties. Apart from the change of season, Barcelona VisualSound is also 4 days longer and the prizes awarded in each of the categories have been increased to 700 euros.

The festival is open to all audiences and takes place in a number of venues and civic centres throughout the city. On this occasion the competitive aspect of the festival includes six separate categories: animation, original soundtrack, documentary, fiction, video clip and creativity. In addition, there will be two unofficial competitions. One of these is a section dedicated to ‘Sweded’ films (homemade versions of popular films), and the other is the increasingly popular ‘Mapping’, a technique in which images are projected onto a surface, or building, thereby transforming it via special effects and 3D. These two competitions have been added to the customary ‘2 minutes in a day’ section , where participants are required to produce a film of a maximum length of two minutes within a twenty four hour period.
