Barcelona shows its support for the battle against AIDS

On Monday the 24th of November the Fight Against AIDS Foundation (FLS) has organised a charity event directed by Miguel Bosé which will feature both a performance by Sara Baras and the presentation of the Barcelona AIDS Awards, a statuette sculpted by Jaume Plensa

For the fifth year running Barcelona will have an opportunity to show its support for the battle against AIDS and will do so, in part, via an initiative of the Fight Against AIDS Foundation (FLS), founded in 1992 by Bonaventura Clotet. The initiative consists of a gala event designed to raise funds for the foundation’s research projects. Directed by Miguel Bosé, the 5th AIDS Gala will be represented by Genoveva Casanova as ambassador and will feature an exclusive performance by Sara Baras and her dance company.

As a novelty this year, the Fight Against AIDS Foundation has created the Barcelona AIDS Awards in an effort to bestow special recognition on the career trajectory of one individual and one organisation. The first to be presented these awards will be Dr. Bruce Walker, a Harvard professor and director of the Ragon Institute at MIT, in Boston, and the philanthropic initiative “Obra Social la Caixa”, both of whom will receive statuettes sculpted especially for the occasion by Barcelona-born sculptor, Jaume Plensa.

On Monday the 24th of November a multitude of well-known personalities will once again gather in the Oval Room of the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya to demonstrate their support for the battle against AIDS. These personalities will include the likes of Jon Kortajarena, Carles Puyol, Judit Mascó as well as people from the business and social strata such as James Costos, the North American ambassador to Spain, who will attend the gala for the first time. For more information, please consult the website of either the gala or the foundation.
