“Barcelona prêt-à-porter, 1958-2008” in the Palau Robert

Wednesday, the 26th of June will see the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to 50 years of Barcelona fashion

The exhibition titled Barcelona prêt-à-porter, 1958-2008. Mig segle d’indústria i moda. Col·lecció tèxtil Antoni de Montpalau will open its doors from the 27th of June to the 30th of March, 2014. Ten months in which to visit an exhibition of more than 300 garments which will provide an overview of the introduction and consolidation of fashion design in the region and the move from haute couture to the mass-production of clothing.

The exhibition provides a retrospective of the textile industry in Catalonia through the evolution of fashion in the regional capital in which visitors may bear witness to the chronological development of the sector and the appearance of key concepts in the country’s economy such as low-cost manufacturing, small studios, designers and boutiques.

Aside from the articles of clothing, on loan from the Sabadell initiative dedicated to Antoni de Montpalau, the exhibition also includes archive photographs and film footage and pieces by the foremost designers, such as Oriol Maspons, Jaume de Laiguana, Colita and Gianni Ruggiero, as well as those from lesser-known brand names, collections and studios.

A veritable stroll through the history of the textile and fashion industries under the direction of curator Josep Casamartina i Parassols.
