Barcelona Design Week celebrates its 10th edition in the Disseny Hub Barcelona
From the 8th to the 14th of June the event will combine creativity, innovation and design in a programme of more than 70 activities that will attract professionals from the world over
Creativity, design and innovation – once again the second week of June will be given over to Barcelona Design Week (BDW), now in its 10th edition. Under the banner Design is here! sector creators, enthusiasts and businesses from all over the world will gather for a programme of more than 70 activities.
In celebration of its first decade in existence, this year the organisers have invited not one but ten cities, who will be represented by the creative directors of various international design festivals. As a result, the International Design Week Talks will feature speakers from Beijing, Budapest, Eindhoven, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, Mexico D.F., New York and Vienna.
Highlights among the many activities include the inaugural conference Design in Tech, which will feature Jackie Xu and John Maeda, who will intervene directly from Silicon Valley, and the exhibition Timeless Massimo Vignelli, which will pay tribute to the famous Italian designer and creator of the New York subway map by means of 54 posters by renowned designers and studios and which can be seen up until the 31st of August.
Also worth highlighting is the first edition of Design is Future, an event that fuses festival and congress in an effort to explore innovation in design. In parallel, EcoDesign Day will focus on the Fixer Movement and will include a design tour of the Poblenou district and a series of workshops specialising in aspects specific to this sector. On an original note, gastronomy and design will coalesce in the Food Design Event, an experimental project headed by Guillermo Oliva and Martín Azúa.
As with every year, the official programme will be complemented by the OFF programme, a series of interior design routes, activities, presentations and exhibitions held in various venues around the city. Barcelona Design Week will also open its doors to Barcelona Design Festival which, from the 8th of June to the 5th of July, will programme a series of events designed to promote and increase the visibility of Catalan businesses and professionals and help them compete on an international level.
The closure of this essential festival coincides with another obligatory event in the design world, namely the inauguration of FADfest, a week dedicated to design and creativity organised by the centre for the Fostering of Art and Design, FAD.
