Barcelona champions International Dance Day

The Association of Dance Professionals of Catalonia will take part in the celebration on the 29th of April by organising promotional dances and, among other events, a charity gala

Wednesday the 29th of April is International Dance Day, held in commemoration of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), a key figure in the renovation of the language of dance choreography. The city of Barcelona will play host to a series of activities organised by the Association of Dance Professionals of Catalonia and designed both to offer the general public a deeper insight into this art form and acknowledge the ongoing efforts of dance professionals.

The festivities will commence on the 29th of April at 1.15 pm on the Rambla de Barcelona in front of the Ministry of Culture with a tap and flamenco performance featuring 30 dancers. In parallel, in an effort to champion the presence of dance in the theatre, a number of choreographed performances featuring recognised professionals will be held in the foyers of numerous theatres around the city: the Mercat de les Flors, the Teatre Lliure, the TNC and the Teatre Romea. The 10-minute performances will be staged before the beginning of the regular programmes in the respective theatres.

To put the finishing touches to the event a charity gala performance will be held in the Mercat de les Flors beginning at 8.30 pm on the same day and will feature students of the Secondary Arts School /Professional Dance Conservatory (EESA/CPD), the Higher Dance Conservatory (CSD) and the Young Dance Company of the Theatre Institute, IT Dansa. All receipts will go towards dance-and-society-related projects.
