Different venues in the city are scheduling exhibitions by artists working in the genre
Since it first appeared in the mid 1960s, videoart has found a warm welcome at museums and galleries all over the world. The prestige and fame of its practitioners has also grown exponentially, and Barcelona’s LOOP festival bears witness to that fact, with the participation of a number of the city’s best known art galleries, culture centres and other exhibition venues.
This year, we will be seeing creations by some of the most representative contemporary artists from the 26th of May to the 10th of June in venues like the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, Arts Santa Mònica, the Tàpies Foundation, the Picasso Museum and the Catalan National Museum of the Arts. The LOOP Festival 2016 is structured around two central themes: “Beyond the black box” and “Back to the black box” featuring proposals and programmes that investigate the tensions between the bi-dimensionality of projections and the dialogical qualities of cinematographic spaces.
The festival also features a fair for galleries and collectors from the 2nd to the 4th of June at Hotel Catalonia Ramblas, with art works in the rooms of the hotel, including a number of contemporary creations brought here by international galleries specialising in the genre.
When: 26 May to 10 June.
Where: Various venues.
