Bachcelona Festival, from the 20th to the 27th of July

Harpsichordists Ton Koopman and Tini Mathot will inaugurate the 2nd edition of the series of concerts and activities designed to present the music of Johann Sebastian Bach in emblematic locations around the city

The Bachcelona Festival originated in 2013 from the Bach Sum Mitsingen project and is designed to disseminate and promote the figure of the German master composer.

This year, harpsichordists Ton Koopman and Tini Mathot have been entrusted with inaugurating the festival on Sunday the 20th of July at 8 pm in the Palau de la Música. From then, and until the participative interpretation of the BWV 9 Cantata as part of the service in the Santa Maria del Mar basilica on Sunday the 27th of July at 12 o’clock midday, a score of related activities will take place in numerous locations around the city.

Some of the musicians who will visit the city to offer their expertise relating to the works of Bach include the period-music formation Le Tendre Amour, lutist Andreas Martín, the Garnati Ensemble, who will present their latest release, Playing Goldberg, and Iwona Sobotka and Clara Pouvereau, who will accompany the Liceu Orchestra.

In addition, Bachmospheres, a meeting point between artists and the general public, will take place every evening from the 21st to the 24th of July in the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc with performances by the vocal group The Gourmets on the 22nd and 24th.

The Bachcelona Festival also includes educational activities such as Bach in Paraules, with Joan Vives, and the exhibition Homage to Bach, a series of etchings by Chillida which can be seen in the Cercle Artístic de Sant Lluc from the 21st to the 26th of July.
