Author Amy Tan visits the Biblioteca Jaume Fuster

On Thursday the 13th of March the Chinese writer will discuss her latest book “The Valley of Amazement”, released following a seven year silence, with Antonio Lozano

As part of the series entitled We talk with..., organised by the regional public library network, the Biblioteca Jaume Fuster will host a visit by Chinese writer Amy Tan on Thursday the 13th of March at 7 pm. The North-American-born writer will be presenting her latest novel, The Valley of Amazement, in which she reunites all the ingredients that have brought her international fame.

The Valley of Amazement tells the tale of three generations of women who struggle against their destiny. The novel’s protagonist is Violet, the privileged daughter of the North American ‘madam’ of the city’s most renowned house of courtesans. When the Qing dynasty falls, she is obliged to separate from her mother and seeks her place between two worlds by becoming an astute courtesan who excels in the arts of seduction and illusion.

The author of best-selling novels such as The Joy Luck Club (1989), which remained on the New York Times Best Seller List for more than seventy weeks, The Bonesetter’s Daughter and Saving Fish from Drowning, returns once again to an exploration of women’s identity and the relationship between Eastern and Western cultures.

The event has been organised by Edicions 62 and Planeta and entry is free while seating is available.
