Arts Santa Mònica to host the main event for World Poetry Day

The event, which is organised by the Institution of Catalan Letters, will take place on 21 March.

On Tuesday 21 March, Arts Santa Mònica will host the central event for World Poetry Day 2017. It will be the end of a series of initiatives, both presencial and online, that have taken place this year all around Catalonia, all of which were promoted by the Institute of Catalan Letters (ILC), together with a number of public and private entities.

This event is free and open to everyone, though places in the Max Cahner cloister room are strictly limited. Among the guests is Majorcan writer Antònia Vicens (Santanyí, Mallorca, 1941), who was commissioned to write a poem for the occasion. During the act, the director of the institute Institut Ramon Llull, as well as a videolit – an audiovisual capsule that is based on a literary text. Also speaking will be Dolors Reig, Katy Trias, Ester Franquesa, Manuel Forcano and Josep R. Cerdà. The event will be brought to an end by Catalan culture minister Santi Vila.

21 March was declared International Poetry Day by UNESCO. The celebration organised by the ILC extends over all of the Catalan-speaking territories, with acts and activities as far afield as Alicante and Alghero.
