Francesc Torres: art as disorder
Until January 2018, Barcelona's National Museum of Art is set to host 'The museum of lost objects', a mix of pieces from its archives.
Visiting a museum usually means following a pre-designed route and seeing the exhibited works in a previously decided sequence. But for Francesc Torres, this way of experiencing art is far from ideal. For him, art should be a surprising, transformational experience and for years he has practised a kind of art that lies midway between performance and rewriting the message, an approach that opens a new chapter at MNAC (Catalan National Museum of Art), where, from 20 October to 14 January, we can see the exhibition ‘The museum of lost objects (The entropic box)’, an experience that Torres defines as a collision between history and culture and, at the same time, a reflection on the nature of museums.
The exhibition is therefore a tour of the museum's archives in which we can see fragments spurious mixtures, installations and creative blendings that are placed in a random fashion in the halls devoted to the exhibition, but without a logical order to the visit. It's a case of pure entropy, that is to say, disorder, based on a confusion of modified artistic fragments that are connected and contaminated.
