The commemoration features the works of artists who have played an important role in the gallery’s history.
This year sees the 140th anniversary of Sala Parés, Barcelona’s oldest active art gallery, which is located at number 5 Carrer Petritxol. And, of course, this important landmark is being celebrated with an exhibition titled Memories 140 Years which will be open to the public until 13 February, featuring work by some of the most representative artists who have exhibited in the gallery.
The gallery has chosen to focus the content on its first 110 years, from 1877 to 1988, since they consider that more recent times deserve to be analysed with greater perspective. The works exhibited are divided into three chronological periods: from 1877 to 1889, from 1890 – the year in which the gallery hosted its first individual exhibitions on a regular basis and the first joint exhibition by Rusiñol, Casas and Clarasó - to 1925 - when Joan Baptista Parés sold the gallery to Joan Anton Maragall i Noble; and after 1925, when Joan Anton and Raimon Maragall reoriented the gallery’s artistic direction.
Visitors to the exhibition will also have the opportunity to buy the works on display. Additional information is available at the following link.
