The Americana Festival is a showcase for lesser known American cinema
From the 3rd to the 6th of March, Cinemes Girona will be screening films that have never been released in Barcelona.
A lot of films never make it to our screens because they aren’t deemed commercial enough or follow the standards of the industry’s canons. That means that we rarely have the chance to see independent American movies at our cinemas. To remedy that, the Americana festival 2016 is celebrating its third annual edition at Cinemes Girona.
The 2016 edition promises some important changes, including a new documentary section, Americana DOCS, which will join the festival’s habitual Top and Next sections. As well as the main film programme, the festival will also feature parallel, small format activities like Americana Shorts, a day devoted to short films with the screening of 12 titles in a single session that is free of charge. Finally, the children of the family are sure to enjoy the Kids activity workshop which will introduce them to the magic of the cinema and which this year features an explanation of the application of special effects (on the 5th and 6th of March at 4pm).
