The art of album covers
Foto Colectania presents the exhibition 'Total Records', a selection some of the best photographic images to appear on album covers.
While we should never judge a book by its cover, when it comes to 12 inch vinyl LPs, a large part of the attraction is in the quality of its cover, especially when the photo is spectacular. A lot of album covers have become icons of 20th century popular culture. Hence the exhibition 'Total Records' at Fundació Foto Colectania , which brings together a very extensive sample of album covers with incredible images. Here, the important thing is not exactly who made the music – artists like Kraftwerk, U2, Madonna and Miles Davis - but who took these iconic photographs.
Examples include Annie Leibovitz's work for Cindy Lauper andRobert Frank's cover for the Rolling Stones, together with images by Helmut Newton for Australian band INXS and by Weegee for George Michael, as well as twork by Nobuyoshi Araki for Björk and by Anton Corbjin for U2. Great photographers, great bands and great works of art that can be seen in Barcelona following the success of this exhibition -curated by Antonie de Beaupré, Serge Vincendet and Sam Stourdzé by Les Recontres d'Arles- in cities such as Zurich, Arles and Berlin.
