Al fresco music with Evenings at the UB

From 5 to 12 July, the gardens of the University of Barcelona are set to host a series of free concerts

Open air activities have an important place in Barcelona’s summer agenda and a careful search can sometimes reveal unusual venues in which to enjoy music and other types of entertainment. That’s the case of Evenings at the UB, which this year offers a series of six concerts featuring some of the most eclectic talents on the emerging music scene.

A wide range of styles are represented in the concert series, and a good example of that is Da Souza (5 July), a band with a direct, lively style and a lyrical universe that have made them a key emerging group. Puput (7 July) blend catchy pop melodies with postrock influences.  Sta (12 July), meanwhile, are influenced more by African and Jamaican rhythms.

At around the midday mark in the cycle, the singer Aries (14 July) will invite us to share his obsession with loops, electronic rhythms, pop melodies and psychedelia.  Big Ok! (19 July) are characterised by more leading-edge, avant-garde sounds, while Santi Careta (21 July) is set to close the cycle with his intimate songs expressing deep feelings. All of the concerts are free though capacity is limited.
