Afrocaña 2013 in the Moll de la Fusta

The drum carnival Batúkandómbe is one of the star acts in the International Afro World Festival, which will take place this year between the 23rd and 25th of August

For the second year running, the Moll de la Fusta will be hosting the International Afro World Festival, Afrocanya, with a wide variety of festive and cultural activities for all audiences. The core section of the festival, however, is the Afro-Caribbean market, a market for all kinds of products relating to African and Afro-American peoples as well as an opportunity to obtain information about activities and projects.

In addition to this giant ‘city of stands’ as the organisers define it, the 2nd International Afro World Festival, from the 23rd to the 25th of August, will include music, dance, gastronomy and workshops among its entertainment and cultural offerings. Batúkandómbe is one of the most eagerly awaited acts of the festival, a drum carnival which will liven up the city between the Parc de la Ciutadella and the Moll de la Fusta on the morning of the 25th.

The festival will include a children’s area, Afrikalandia, as well as other activities, such as an Afro fashion parade and a limbo dancing competition,

In addition to promoting coexistence and mutual sharing of knowledge among cultures, the event also has a charitable aspect in support of the SOS Africa projects in the semi-arid region of Machakos, Kenya.
