La fira Swab està dedicada a l'art contemporani

The 9th edition of the Swab Barcelona Art Fair

The fair, which will feature 75 different art galleries, will take place from 29 September to 2 October

For four days, from 29 September to 2 October, contemporary art is set to invade the Italian Pavilion at Fira Barcelona Montjuïc. Swab Barcelona is an innovative art fair that is celebrating its 9th annual edition this year with a record number of 75 galleries from around the world. There are nine different programmes, including last year’s Swab Solo, Swab Seed, Drawing Applications and MYFAF, which will be joined by new programmes like In/Out, Focus Magreb and Cross-Bounders.

The 2016 edition of Swab Barcelona will focus especially on emerging artists who were born after 1975 and is an excellent opportunity to explore the newest direction taken by artists from all around the world and begin or expand their collection of contemporary art.

There will also be time and space for prizes and recognitions, including the Premi Fundació Banc Sabadell for the best contemporary art gallery taking part in the fair, the  Premi Mango for the best young artist, and the Premi DKV for the best Spanish artist, while the Fundació Lluís Coromina will be recognising the achievements of the best Catalan artist.

Swab Barcelona was created in 2006 by the Espai d'Art Contemporani Diezy7, a private collection based in Barcelona, and since its beginning has received the support of major Spanish and international galleries, as well as the backing of Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Last year’s fair saw the participation of 65 galleries from 22 countries and attracted over 19,000 visitors.
