5th Congress on Medieval and Modern Catalonian Architecture

In the Born Centre Cultural from the 22nd to the 25th of May a selection of speakers will reveal the results of their research relating to the city of Barcelona

Organised by ACRAM, the Catalan Association for Research into Medieval Architecture, in collaboration with Architecture Department of the Barcelona City Council, the 5th Congress on Medieval and Modern Catalonian Architecture will take place in the Born Centre Cultural, focussing on the key concept of ‘city’ and with Barcelona as its principal reference.

From urban planning to construction techniques, and including other physical-space-defining elements, visitors to the congress will be acquainted with the results of recent archaeological interventions in medieval and modern sites dating from the 5th to the 18th century.

The congress is divided into three distinct blocks. On the one hand, the interventions themselves will be grouped into monographic sessions while, on the other, specialists will deliver framework presentations in which they will either discuss the current situation facing research into the city’s major archaeological treasures or reveal information regarding, in the main, to subject-related interventions carried out between 2010 and 2014.

The remainder of the sessions will be given over to excavations carried out in locations throughout Catalonia and will include presentations relating to the specific interventions as well as presentations of posters which, due to the organic nature of the materials used are very rare and difficult to conserve and, as a result, often go unnoticed.

More information, including a complete programme of events and registration forms, can be found on the ACRAM and Born Centre Cultural websites.
