52nd Francesc Viñas International Singing Competition, in the Liceu

Risto Mejide will deliver the opening address for a competition that will feature 607 participants from 61 countries and will run up until the 25th of January

The now-traditional Francesc Viñas International Singing Competition reaches its 52nd edition with greater international participation than ever - on this occasion, 607 participants from a total of 61 countries. The final phase of the competition will take place in Barcelona up until the 25th of January, the eliminatory phases having previously been held in Paris, New York, London, Milan, Beijing, Los Angeles and Madrid. The final phase will kick off on the 17th of January at 7 pm in the Saló de Cent of the Barcelona City Council buildings, with an opening address by publicist Risto Mejide followed by a recital by tenor Francisco Araiza accompanied by Vèronique Werklé on piano.

From the 18th to the 21st of January, at 2.30 pm, the final eliminatory trials will begin daily in the Conservatori Superior de Música of the Liceu. The final trial will take place on the 23rd at 3 pm in the Gran Teatre del Liceu, at which point the jury’s final verdict will be announced. The following day, beginning at 6.30 pm, the Foyer venue in the Liceu will host An evening with Raina Kobaivanska, a series of recording contract auditions headed by Kobaivanska, one of the jury members for the competition.

The final concert featuring the prize-winners, accompanied by the Liceu Symphony Orchestra directed by Gueràssim Voronkov, will be held in the Teatre Liceu on the 25th of January, beginning at 6 pm, during which the winners will receive their accolades.
