The 2nd edition of the Barcelona Vintage Festival combines the old and the new

On the 6th and 7th of June the area in and around the remodelled Encants market will host a vintage and retro market featuring live music, culinary caravans and other activities

Catalan poet V. J. Foix is reputed to have stated "I love the new and I adore the old", and it would certainly appear that this love for all things old has made its mark on the city in recent years. Retro fashion has definitely gained a legion of followers, a fact that is borne out by the numerous markets that sprout every weekend as meeting places for people to sell and exchange vintage, recycled and second-hand goods.

The second edition of the Barcelona Vintage Festival is further proof of this phenomenon. Focussing on vintage and retro goods, the festival serves as a meeting point where professionals, collectors and enthusiasts alike can sell and exchange anything and everything as long as it can be considered vintage: antiques, vinyl recordings, furniture, clothes, accessories and even vehicles. In fact, the festival area will host just about everything that could be expected from an event of this nature, from furniture restorers to cupcake makers.

With an expected attendance of around 40,000 visitors, the festival area will feature a host of vintage, design and second-hand stalls and will be located in and around the Encants market, itself a prime example of the combination of the old and the new. Recently refurbished, this is one of the oldest official market places in Europe and an example of commercial dynamism that dates back to the 14th century.

In addition to the market, the festival organisers have also programmed a series of parallel activities. Retro, vintage and pin-up clothing designers are invited to present their latest creations in the catwalk area while the younger members of the family can pass the time in the vintage games area. The festival will also feature live music, 'oldies' DJs and a 'food village' offering a wide range of fare.
