The 22nd Barcelona Manga Fair is here

Japanese literature and the origins of Manga are the main themes at the fair

Fans of Japanese comics and culture have an unmissable date at what has become Spain’s top manga-related event. The 22nd Barcelona Manga Fair is scheduled to take place from 29 October to 1 November and, this year, brings several major new developments. This year’s fair will occupy Pavilions 1, 2, 4 and 5 at  Fira de Barcelona, as well as Plaça Univers, which will host the cosplay competition and the Anime Song Contest, together with dance exhibitions and musical performances.

There will also be a space given over to gastronomy that includes restaurants, workshops and a section that aims to take visitors into the world of Japanese desserts. This year, Japanese literature will be a major focus of the fair, together with an exhibition on the origins of manga, which reviews more than a thousand years of illustration in Japan.

And visitors to the fair will also find the traditional commercial stands area, a kids zone, videogames and, of course, workshops on everything from kimonos to youtubers. If all of that sound too stressing, there is also a tearoom and even a space reserved for meditation. All in all, it promises to be a total immersion in Japanese culture.
