The event is an attempt to delve further into the work and world conception of the modernist architect and can be seen from the 6th to the 10th of October in the Main Assembly Hall, or Paraninfo, of Barcelona University
Antoni Gaudí is one of Catalan architecture’s greatest exponents and, finally, a number of studies dealing with his life and work have been synthesised into the 1st Gaudí World Congress, which will attempt to present a new perspective on the work of the maximum exponent of Catalan Modernism.
The event is international in scope and its aim is to establish itself as a platform for interaction among specialists in the subject. As a result, the research and science aspects of the event will include the presentation of unpublished studies dealing with the vision and talent of Gaudí. The possible practical applications of the modernist architect’s values on contemporary architecture will also be under discussion, and, finally, new opportunities for study and research into Gaudí’s work will also be presented in an effort to encourage world-wide dissemination and impact.
The 1st Gaudí World Congress will also focus on one particular project: The Colonia Güell crypt, on which construction commenced in 1908 and which remains unfinished to date. The focus of the event, however, will not be limited to this particular monument.
Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) is one of Catalan Modernism’s greatest exponents. Meticulous observation of nature itself led him to create a truly unique architectural style, a style that manifests itself in buildings such as La Pedrera and the Sagrada Familia, another project that today remains unfinished.
The 1st Gaudí World Congress will take place from the 6th to the 10th of October in the Main Assembly Hall, or Paraninfo, of Barcelona University. Inscriptions for participation run from 200 € up to 1950 € and more information is available here.
