19th Saló del Manga (Manga Convention) in Barcelona

This year’s event, which takes place from the 31st of October to the 3rd of November, focusses on the presence of sport in Manga and Anime

The Saló del Manga de Barcelona returns once again in its role as an international exhibition featuring, as always, the best and most representative pieces from the world of Anime, Manga, and Japanese culture in general.

The principal focus of this year’s event, which takes place from the 31st of October to the 3rd of November, is the presence of sport in Manga and Anime, which will be precisely the subject of the main exhibition titled Manga en joc, which includes an in-depth study of the more popular genre titles such as Oliver and Benji, Muscleman and Slam Dunk.

The event includes two other exhibitions, one of which is entitled Els nostres Mangakas (Our own manga artists), and pays tribute to Spanish authors who have let themselves be seduced by the fascinating world of Manga and have created  a new genre within the context of the Spanish comic. The other exhibition is dedicated to Dragon Ball, and will include exclusive, unpublished material relating to the revolutionary creation by Akira Toriyama.

For the second year running the Salódel Manga will take place in the Fira de Barcelona in Montjuïc and will be extended to include pavilions 1 and 2 to accommodate the expected turnout. The first pavilion will be dedicated to music and cosplay competitions and live music (cosplay is a Japanese cultural tradition based on dressing up as Anime and Manga characters).

The other pavilion will host exhibitions and exhibitors, manga workshops, traditional Japanese games, conferences, master classes, round table discussions, a video game area, an area dedicated to oriental cuisine, and other activities.

Among the guests will be Shintaro Kago, the maximum exponent of ero guru, an adult Manga style that tests the tolerance of the readers, and Chinese artist Li Kunwu, one of the foremost artists of his generation.

The Salón del Manga is organised by FICOMIC with the support of the Barcelona City Council, the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Consulate in Barcelona.
