“1714, crònica d’un setge” (chronicles of a siege), in the Jove Teatre Regina

From September 13th to November 10th, a musical drama about the 1714 siege will once again inaugurate the season of performances not specifically directed at children

In the early morning of September 11th, 1714, a group of Barcelona residents await an attack by the troops of Philip V. The characters, who originate from different parts of the city and different social backgrounds (an officer from a well-to-do family, an immigrant girl, a crafts worker, a woman ahead of her time, etc.), describe their experiences during the siege, their emotions, doubts, fears, etc.

Through the words of Quim, a student who keeps a diary, the spectator understand the causes of this desperate situation; the political reasons and historical events that have led to this definitive siege of the city.

1714, crònica d'un setge is a musical drama that represents the symbolic beginning of a new era in the Jove Teatre Regina, 25 years after its inauguration, as well as return to the season of performances for older age-group audiences, which began last April. It also forms part of the programme of events for the tercentenary celebrations.

The libretto by Macià G. Olivella, the music by Ferran González and choreography by Esther Pérez, all combine to give the spectator a good idea of what the city of Barcelona was like at the beginning of the 18th century and to acquaint them with what it meant to be defeated at the hands of the Bourbon troops.
