11th Diaspora: The Colombian Film Festival of Barcelona

This year’s festival will take place from the 16th to the 26th of October in various venues throughout the city and will focus on the role of Colombian civil society in the construction of peace in the country

From the 16th to the 26th of October, Diàspora, the Colombian Film Festival of Barcelona, will present its 11th edition in various venues throughout the city: The Filmoteca de Catalunya, a new venue that has been added to this year’s programme, Cinemes Girona, Casa Amèrica, FNAC El Triangle, the main SGAE offices and the Pati Llimona Civic Centre.

The central theme of this, the 11th edition of the festival, is the role played by Colombian civil society in the construction of peace in the country. Documentary films will be a feature of this year’s festival, as will the appearance of well-known film maker, Luis Ospina, as guest of honour.

A total of 36 recent Colombian productions will be screened, including 8 full-length fictional films, 6 full-length documentaries, 10 fictional short films and 12 short documentaries. Highlights among the Official Section of full-length fictional films include The Blue of the Sky, by Juan Alfredo Uribe, which blends intrigue with romantic drama, and Mauricio Cuervo’s Chronicle of the End of the World, a drama with an apocalyptical setting. The Official Section for documentaries includes such films as Inés, Memories of a Lifetime, by Luisa Sossa, which won the Imago Award for Best Social Documentary, and A Paper Tiger and The Supreme Uneasiness, both of which form part of a tribute to Luis Ospina.

Tickets are priced at 4 euros in the Filmoteca and 5 euros in the Cinemes Girona and entry is free in the other venues.
