Two new exhibitions at the Antoni Tàpies Foundation
The exhibitions are 'Profound Certainty' and 'Albert Serra. Roi Soleil'.
Two new exhibitions are set to open at the Antoni Tàpies Foundation. Firstly, Antoni Tàpies. Profound Certainty, which can be seen from 17 March to 29 September, consists of a series of works created on the synthetic textiles that the painter used to protect the floor of his studio while he was painting. Twenty-eight years ago, the then-director of the foundation, Manuel J. Borja-Villel, made a selection of those those textiles which were exhibited under the title 'Profound Certainty'. The foundation is now bringing back that set of works, this time in its entirety, recovering pieces that have not been seen before and exhibiting them together with a series of bronze and chamotte earth sculptures from the same period.
Albert Serra. Roi Soleil is an exhibition focused on Serra’s 2017 art-house film The Death of Louis XIV, in which, in the director’s own words, “before the visitors of an art gallery, an actor stages the slow agony of the French monarch Louis XIV, until his death, in a physical and psychological challenge of remarkable complexity”. The exhibition can be seen from 17 March to 16 June.
