Every Thursday, the Verdi cinema offers the Essential Thursdays sessions, a cycle of rediscovery that brings us iconic films from the history of cinema.

On Thursday 30 August, audiences can enjoy the 1993 German film Faraway, So Close! by German director Wim Wenders. It offers a stark view of Berlin following the fall of the Wall and of existence. The film won the Grand Prix du Jury at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival.

Two guardian angels are flying over Berlin. They are invisible and full of kindness, but they cannot intervene in people’s lives. So Cassiel, the angel of tears, becomes human so he can learn what it’s like to feel and how people see the world.
