On 13 December, audiences can enjoy the Christmas concert Magno gaudens gaudio: Mediaeval Christmas Songs and Dances, in the incomparable setting of the church at the Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes.
In the programme, the Magister Petrus group presents an exquisite collection of Christmas songs and dances that include compositions in Latin by Pere Abelard and the schools of Sant Marçal in Limoges and Notre-Dame in Paris, as well as the Cantigas de Santa María, by Alfons X, which presaged the arrival of the Messiah and the adoration of the Kings of Orient.
The instruments used for the programme are characteristic of the Christmas season: portable organ and bells (clerical instruments used in the church), bagpipes and Pan pipes (constantly depicted in the adoration of the shepherds) and round and square tambourines (recorded in Christmas dance songs).
