Resilience and adaptation

Adaptation: increasing the total amount of greenery by 1.6km2 and achieving 100 litres of water consumption per resident per day.

The objective of the adaptation and resilience plans is to analyse how climate change will affect the city and identify adaptation measures, especially nature-based solutions that generate co-benefits and which are flexible and cross-cutting. While new measures are being established, we want to incorporate these criteria into the city's planning, transformation and management processes and into existing sector-specific plans too.

Efforts are being made to make Barcelona an exemplary resilient city, which is able to face current and future challenges, working to reduce its vulnerabilities in all areas affecting the lives of its residents, and thus ensuring the provision of high-quality services.

In 2015, Barcelona made the first steps towards preparing the climate change resilience and adaptation plan.
