Spiral Stairs

Spiral Stairs

Spiral Stairs is the alias that Scott Kannberg used instead of his name on Pavement’s first releases, when he and Stephen Malkmus formed the group in 1989. It is also the aliases he adopts for his solo career, which he launched in 2009 with the album The Real Feel —just a year before his short-lived reunion with Pavement— and now follows up with Doris & the Daggers. This second album blends sounds reminiscent of Pavement (remember, Kannberg writes and sings on some of the band’s numbers) with such influences (which the artist fully acknowledge) as Roxy Music, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac, Guided by Voices, The Go-Betweens, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Smog, among others. Pure college rock from Seattle.
