Crudo Pimiento

According to the dictionary, a luthier is an artisan who builds and repairs stringed instruments. But whoever wrote this definition cannot have been thinking of Raúl Frutos, who forms the duo Crudo Pimento with Inma Gómez. Even so, Múrcia-born Frutos describes himself as a luthier, for he creates home-made lutes with peculiar tunings, as well as percussion instruments made from red pepper cans and sticks that, if they did not form part of his works, we would call brooms. The duo’s songs are soaked in Mississippi Delta blues, added to which are influences from Latin American and Caribbean folklore, and even black metal. This year, after their eponymous debut album in 2013 and their second long-player, Fania helvete (2015), they released a third LP, Teleíste mouska. They promise to play tracks from it on an assortment of seemingly impossible musical inventions.
