Acid Arab

What Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho do is not fusion, they say, but meeting. Fascinated by music from the Middle East, with its complex rhythmic structures, ever since a life-changing trip to Tunisia, these Parisian producers soon realised that those sounds had a similar trance-like effect to that caused by acid house. And this explains their name: they make music that is at once both Arabic and acid, sounds that combine the emotion and dramatic power of the East, through harmony and melody, chant and traditional music, with the cold, machine quality of techno. The best of both worlds, brought together on the floor —in the end, everything is dance music— to make sounds inspired by contemporary Arabic urban music, a vibe they feel very much part of.
