BERNAT PICORNELL MUNICIPAL SPORTS CENTRE SWIMMING POOLS
(BCN'92: Bernat Picornell Swimming Pools)
Opened in 1970, 21 years later they underwent major renovation work to host the competitions of the Barcelona 92 Olympic Games. They hosted the Olympic and Paralympic swimming competitions and the synchronised swimming, as well as the waterpolo final.
The training pool was covered to enable climate control and it was also made deeper so it could host the synchronised swimming competition. A temporary platform was also installed to increase its seating capacity.
Today, this municipal facility has three swimming pools open to the public: an indoor pool, an outdoor pool (both 50m) and a diving pool. It has staged some major international events, including synchronised swimming at the 2003 World Swimming Championships and the 2013 World Swimming Championships.
