Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 to be the next Olympic cities
Games. Both the French capital and the North American city will be hosting the Olympic Games and Paralympics for the third time in their history.
A few days ago the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the two cities as Olympic hosts following the Tokyo 2020 games. The organising committees for the candidacies reached an agreement in August to host the Olympic Games and Paralympics in 2024 and 2028 as they were the only candidacies to reach the final stage.
“I have the great honour of announcing that the International Olympic Committee has simultaneously chosen the cities for the 33rd (2024) and 34th (2028) Olympic Games: Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028”, announced the president of the IOC, Thomas Bach.
The decision comes after Rome, Budapest and Hamburg withdrew their candidacies for the 2024 Olympic Games due to the elevated costs of organising this global sports event.
Paris and Los Angeles, repeat hosts
Both Paris and Los Angeles will be organising the event for the third time in their history. The French capital hosted the games in 1900, and again in the modern era of the event in 1924. The American city hosted the games in 1932 and 1984.
