The enthusiasm shown by the general public of Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain during the 1992 Olympic Games is probably best represented by the enormous number of people who took part in the event as volunteers. There were 34,548 volunteers, a number that went far beyond anything that had happened before.
The volunteers were one of the main reasons why the Games worked so well. Their enthusiasm and discipline, the hours of work they invested in training and knowing exactly what they had to do were fundamental reasons why all the pieces of the puzzle fell perfectly into place from 25 July to 9 August 1992.
This was recognised by visitors, the media and authorities from the Olympic movement. Barcelona '92 would not have been the same without the thousands of volunteers who immersed themselves in the daily tasks of the Games.
